We finished the first unit in Little Hearts for his Glory this week and started Unit 2 today. The first unit focused on the beginning of history. One of the favorite activities that Lillian even liked was "Rhymes In Motion". The Rhyme in unit one was "God's Creation". During this activity Elliot had to do different body moments while I said the rhyme which focused on names of continents. The idea is to use gross motor skill and of course learn the names of continents.
In the middle of the week we switched things up and started using "Handwriting Without Tears" instead of "A Reason for Writing" that Hearts of Dakota suggested. It seems to be working better and there are fun activities like "wet, dry, try" on a small chalk board. Basically you trace the letter with something wet, trace the letter with something dry and then use chalk to write the letter. It's a lot better than just printing over and over the same letter on a piece of paper.
I was excited about starting unit two because there is a lot of talk about obeying. We even talked about the virtue of being obedient. The focus on unit 2 is "The People Sin". So of course we started out reading about Adam and Eve. Our memory verse is Ephesians 6:1 "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right."
In history we have been talking about timelines, so I found a timeline project for history starting with Creation all the way through World War II, which is all of what he will learn in kindergarten. We are going to start working on that next week.
So far it has been a great start to our homeschool adventure! I am not going to say it has been easy but I was not expecting it to be. No homeschool mom or blog that you read is going to say it is easy. We look forward to next month when we meet other local homeschool families at a pool party and then will be meeting up with them on a regular basis.
